European Broadcasting Union brings Vienna's Summer Night Concert to the world

Vienna, 7 June 2012 – The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and its Members will tonight ensure that music lovers in more than 60 countries can enjoy the annual Summer Night Concert, at the stunning Schönbrunn Palace, in Vienna.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to watch the concert live from the gardens of the palace, while 37 EBU Members* will broadcast it, either live or by deferred relay.
In addition, the EBU will provide the satellite signal for television stations outside the European region, bringing the concert to audiences around the planet.
EBU Media Director Annika Nyberg Frankenhaeuser said, "This spectacular event is beautiful to watch, and the EBU is honoured once again to bring the merits of classical music to a huge global audience."
Under its current concert package** with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO), the EBU has since 2009 successfully distributed the Summer Night Concert on TV and radio. 
The Summer Night Concert is produced by Austrian EBU Member ORF, in cooperation with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2004 the event has been held in the magnificent baroque Schönbrunn gardens, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The concert is free of admission and attracts a live audience of up to 100,000 people every year.

  • The annual Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn, at the Schlosspark, Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna.
  • A special concert held in a different international location each year:

In 2009 it was at the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre; in 2010 at the Cankar Hall, Slovenia, hosted by RTVSLO; in 2011 it took place at the National Auditorium of Music, Madrid, hosted by RTVE and in 2012 it will be held at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on 7 September, as part of the BBC Proms.
