Three new papers have been published in the EBU Technical Review in recent days. All three are available for download now.

Loudness Distribution

Richard van Everdingen, who leads the Distribution subgroup of the EBU's PLOUD group, has contributed an essential overview of the EBU Loudness Distribution Guidelines (Tech 3344). That 90-page document covers the parts of the chain that lie between the broadcaster and the consumer, addressing the known problems that arise in the distribution of Loudness normalized signals. Converged Networks

CBC/Radio Canada, an Associate Member of the EBU, has developed a Next Generation Converged Network that addresses the challenge of carrying audio, video, corporate data and FTP file transfers on a single, flexible, scalable network. Michel Béland, who is responsible for the design and development of the new network, has contributed a paper based on his presentation at last June's EBU Network Technology Seminar. Download.

Electronic Newsgathering

The third addition to the Technical Review for this quarter is a report on two years of testing conducted by the IRT on commercially available "reporter backpack" solutions. In an era where broadcasters are under great pressure to reduce costs, these systems offer a potentially attractive solution for electronic newsgathering where a full OB set-up is not necessary. Markus Berg and Matthias Hammer provide an analysis that will be highly valuable for any broadcaster investing in this technology. Download.
