Call for participation in Networked Media task force

The EBU, SMPTE and VSF have formed a Joint Task Force on Networked Media (JT-NM) with the mission of mapping out a strategy for developing a packet-based network infrastructure for the professional media industry by bringing together manufacturers, broadcasters, standards bodies and trade associations.

The time is right to define technologies for an all-over networked production environment encompassing live and file-based content exchange. The findings of the Task Force and subsequent open systems standards will lead to a paradigm shift in how content is produced by broadcasters, with highly efficient and flexible production workflows and, ultimately, new business opportunities.

JT-NM needs you!

The EBU is seeking active participation from the professional media industry, including broadcasters and manufacturers. Those who wish to participate should send an email to the Bob Ruhl, operations manager at VSF ([email protected]). The following information should be included:

  • Name
  • E-mail address
  • Work affiliation
  • Reasons for interest in joining the Task Force

The first group conference call is planned for Thursday 2 May 2013 at 17.00 CEST (11.00 EST / 16.00 BST). A face-to-face briefing will be held in Geneva on Thursday 27 June, immediately following the EBU's Network Technology Seminar 2013.

The Mission

The mission of the new Joint Task Force on Networked Media is:

"In an open, participatory environment, map out a strategy for developing a packet-based network infrastructure for the professional media industry by bringing together manufacturers, broadcasters and industry organizations (standards bodies and trade associations) with the objective to create, store, transfer and stream professional media."

For more information on how the JT-NM will carry out this mission see this PDF.
