EBU Community gathers for 70th General Assembly
25 juin 2013
Top-tier public service media (PSM) executives are gathering in Malta for the EBU General Assembly, which opens on Thursday (27 June).
The General Assembly, the highest decision-making body of the EBU, provides a unique forum for debate and discussion of the key issues faced by Europe's public service media. Of the 190 delegates who have registered for the event, more than a quarter are directors general or presidents, marking a ten percent increase in attendance by the upper echelons of PSM over last year's event in Strasbourg.
In addition to the presentation of committee and financial reports, EBU President Jean-Paul Philippot and Director General Ingrid Deltenre will highlight some of the EBU's standout successes from 2012 and update the Membership on the situation of Greek Member ERT, which was shut down by the Greek Government on 11 June.
The two-day Assembly will also feature special sessions looking at how PSM can succeed in times of austerity, the role of sports rights in the PSM model and the EBU's two flagship projects:
- Vision2020 – a strategic quest to find out how PSM can best serve their audiences and identify the main challenges to PSM in the next seven years.
-
PSM Values – a continuation of the debate launched in Strasbourg in Summer 2012 based on the core values that unite Europe's biggest union of broadcasters.
