EBU and FIS team up for World Snow Day 2014
16 janvier 2014
The International Ski Federation (FIS) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have joined forces once again to promote snow sports among young people through FIS World Snow Day, which will take place for the third time on 19 January 2014.
FIS World Snow Day aims to promote interest in snow sports by encouraging all stakeholders in the snow industry to contribute to a special day for four to 14-year olds and their families on the third Sunday in January every year.
World Snow Day is part of FIS’s international ‘Bring Children to the Snow’ campaign, launched in 2007, which seeks to reverse the decline in snow sports participation by the younger generations.
To promote the event, the EBU is making available its global Eurovision network of broadcasting capabilities – including via the World Link platform – and its Members’ distribution channels to spread the message of World Snow Day 2013, through a top-quality promotional trailer.
The trailer, which is free to broadcasters and runs at 30 seconds, is available in English, German, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish. In addition, EBU Members can add links to their online channels (internet, social media) to World Snow Day’s digital online platform: www.world-snow-day.com.
“The EBU’s interest and participation in World Snow Day further demonstrates its commitment to snow sports,” said Marcel Looze, FIS Marketing & Events Manager. “With this cooperation, the word about World Snow Day will reach thousands of additional people, who we hope will be inspired to join in the fun on January 19th.”
EBU Head of Winter Sports Ingolfur Hannesson added: “We are proud to be part of this encouraging FIS initiative, a project to encourage families, and in particular children, to experience the amazing world of snow sports. The EBU itself as a consortium of public service members has a mission which fits perfectly with the aims of this project.”
