Former EBU director of radio dies aged 76
22 mai 2014
EBU executives have paid tribute to former long-serving Director of Radio, Thomas Alexanderson, who died in Geneva May 16.

Thomas Alexanderson,
EBU Director of Radio (1985–2001)
Mr Alexanderson joined the EBU in 1985 via Swedish Member SVT.
During his 15 years of EBU service, Mr Alexanderson earned a reputation as a trailblazer, despite confessing on his arrival at the EBU to ‘knowing virtually nothing about radio.’
His modesty belied a visionary approach to restructuring the department, and his enduring achievements included the creation of the Euroradio network in parallel to Eurovision and the founding of the Eurosonic music exchange.
His final years as Director were marked by efforts to advance Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) by forging alliances between the EBU and associations for private radio and manufacturers and WorldDAB.
A funeral service was held on Thursday 22 May at the Chapelle de la Provvidenza, in Carouge, Geneva.
