EBU congratulates 67th Prix Italia winners and welcomes new event President

8 EBU Members triumphed at the 67th Prix Italia awards held in Turin on 24 September. Channel 4 (UK), TVP, NRK, ARD, and RTR were among the winners of this year’s competition.
In the TV category, Channel 4 (UK) took the Performing Arts award for “Our Gay Wedding: the musical” and scooped the Current Affairs documentary prize for “Children on the Frontline” a story of love and courage during the war in Syria. The award for best Music and Arts Documentary went to Poland’s TVP for “The Cabaret of Death” directed by Andrzej Celinski. Norway’s NRK won the TV Drama: Series and Serials award with “The Heavy Water War” and for TV Documentary, Germany’s ZDF won the Cultural award with their “1989 – A Statesman Opens Up”.
EBU winners in the Radio Category included ARD Germany’s “Bunyah” for best Music-composed Work. RTR Russia won best ‘Programme about any kind of music attracting a broader audience’ for “Encrypted in Music”, and Sveriges Radio’s “The Black Saint” too the best Radio Documentary and Reportage award.
In the Web Competition, the Best Trans-Media Experience went to ZDF Germany for “Netwars”, and the BBC won Best Digital Storytelling for “Footballers United”.
The Special Prize from The President of the Italian Republic went to ORF Austria for the radio documentary “Two Mothers” and the Golden Award for International TV Co-productions went to RTVE Spain’s “The E-waste Tragedy”.
During the General Assembly of the 67th Prix Italia, Gilles Marchand, director of Radio Télévision Suisse (part of SSR SRG) was elected President of the competition. Mr. Marchand will succeed Rémy Pflimlin and will remain in office of the next three sessions.
