ERT Eurovision Desk wins 2015 Gunnar Høidahl News Exchange award

This year's Gunnar Høidahl Award for excellence in the Eurovision News Exchange went to the Eurovision News Desk of the EBU's Greek Member ERT.

Ifigeneia Manesi and Polina Golia from Greek news desk accepted the prize given for their resilience, cooperative attitude, and efforts beyond the call of duty..

Head of the Eurovision News Exchanges Justyna Kurczabinska praised the winners adding that, "Given the extremely difficult circumstances surrounding ERT and the turmoil that all our Greek colleagues have been through, we are especially grateful for the steady collaboration of their news desk."

Special mention was also given to France's C+/iTELE team for reactiveness and collaboration with the News Exchange during the Charlie Hebdo terror attacks, and to Eurovision Special Events producers, who offered continuous coverage while managing difficult feed points during the migrant and Greece crises.

The Eurovision News Exchange delivers over 100 edited news items and roughly 7 hours of live coverage every single day. This is possible thanks to a unique network of EBU members sharing their distinctive content non-stop via the Eurovision News Exchange.

2015 Nominees

The Gunnar Høidahl prize is awarded annually at the News Assembly. Nominees are put forward by the EBU's Geneva news editors and the winner is selected by the entire News Exchange team. This year's list included:

  • Greece: ERT Eurovision desk for their resilience, cooperative attitude, and efforts beyond duty in extremely difficult circumstances
  • France: C+/iTELE team for reactivenss and collaboration with EVNs during the Charlie Hebdo terror attacks
  • Eurovision Special Events producers who produced and offered EVN coverage while managing difficult feedpoints during the migrant and Greece crises and many other stories
  • Ukraine: NTU Anna Starkova for single-handedly running the EVN desk in an extremely difficult political and logistics context
  • Belgium: VRT for the consistent quality of its coverage and metadata, including foreign coverage, and their reactiveness when news breaks
  • Denmark: DR for its constant daily offers of content including high-quality foreign coverage and complete metadata despite staff cuts
