EBU broadcasts VPO Summer Night Concert to viewers in more than 70 countries

The EBU will once again bring classical music lovers one of the showpiece events in the orchestral calendar on the evening of May 26.
Since 2004, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO) has performed their Summer Night Concert in the unique ambience of the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens in Vienna.
Produced by ORF, the EBU will be transmitting the concert to over 30 EBU Members and more than 40 other broadcasters worldwide.
The HD recording is available globally on the EBU’s Eurovision and Euroradio satellite and fibre networks for live or deferred broadcast.
This year’s 90-minute concert features works from Bizet, Berlioz, Poulenc and Ravel and will be conducted by Semyon Bychkov.
“Classical music forms a core part of public service media programming and, thanks to the EBU, viewers around the world will enjoy a unique performance from one of the finest orchestras in the world in this spectacular setting,” said Media Director Jean Philip De Tender
Continuing a longstanding partnership, in December the EBU and VPO signed a new contract covering European rights to three annual concerts (the iconic New Year’s Concert, Summer Night Concert and a ‘Special Concert’ from the orchestra’s international tours) for the period 2018-22.
The 2016 Special Concert, later this year, will be a production by Japanese EBU Associate NHK from Suntory Hall, Tokyo with a programme featuring violinist Anne Sophie Mutter, conducted by Zubin Mehta and Seiji Ozawa.
