The EBU has welcomed the appointment of Irina Radu as the new President Director General (PDG) of TVR. An experienced journalist, Radu was the acting Director General between September 2015 and April 2016 and has been Director of Programmes at TVR since 2013.

Radu’s appointment was officially approved by both Houses of Parliament yesterday with 304 votes in favour and only 8 against.

Radu takes up the role at an extremely challenging time for the broadcaster. The EBU withdrew member services from TVR last month following the non-payment of debts totalling CHF 16 million.

On appointment Radu said: “Starting from today, Romanian Public Television has a legitimate management. I want to assure you that I will do my best so that TVR will become again what it used to be: a respected television, loved by its audience.”
