2013 Programme

The 2013 Media Summit, a Eurovision and Euroradio event, took place in Brussels 28-31 May.

The Media Summit is the most valued and respected forum for programme-makers and content producers looking to network, share ideas and be inspired. It is where the industry needs to be to connect with the most creative people, and to share and discuss the most exciting and thought-provoking ideas.

The summit attracts over 600 of Europe’s finest producers and commissioners, as well as industry experts, decision-makers and contributors across all genres.

For the first time, delegates to the 2013 Media Summit were able to attend the prestigious 2013 Rose d’Or awards, which announced at a Gala Dinner celebration of the best of best in entertainment TV.

Conferences, special sessions and Management/Experts meetings

Members were invited to register for the regular Eurovision meetings during the week, including the Television Assembly and the Expert Groups, as well as a range of specialist sessions, including Future Media, Access Services and the Vision2020 Trends Conference.

The Media Summit Focus Day

The theme of this year’s Media Summit Focus Day was Storytelling for the Future, viewed from three perspectives: Innovation, the Future, and Vision.

Innovation

What can we learn from current best practices and innovations in Public Service Media to prepare ourselves better for the future?
• Session 1: Proud to Present (09:00-10:30)
A celebration of the best Public Service TV, radio and online content of the past 12 months. How these winning concepts were created, developed and implemented.
• Coffee break  (10:30-11:00)
• Session 2: Proud to Present, Part Two (11:00-12:00)
• Lunch (12:00-13:30)

The Future

• Session 3: Sharing our knowledge (13:30-14:30)
What are the story-telling skills content producers are developing to build future success?  What are the key lessons we can learn in creating compelling programmes that tell great stories? A knowledge and idea sharing experience with fellow programme-makers from around the world.
• Session 4: The future reality is…?  (14:30-15:45)
A debate amongst key industry thinkers, futurologists, researchers and the audience -- a hypothetical situation but a real-world focus on the future. What the content world is going to look like in five years time, why storytelling is going to matter, how audiences will want  to consume content and what they will expect from us! Is it all about social media? What’s the role of the mobile platform? Are TV and radio still going to be relevant? Who says what?
• Session 5:  The conversation to come (15:45-16:15)
A summary of the best ideas of the day, and an audience vote on which need to be followed up over the next 12 months

Vision

• Session 6: Using the Power of Visual Storytelling (16:15-17:00)

A guest speaker at some of the world’s most prestigious events, including TED and The State of the World Symposium, Chris joins us live to talk about the power of visual storytelling and what that means to us and to the world today.
