Azerbaijan wins 56th Eurovision Song Contest

Düsseldorf, 15.05.2011 – Ell/Nikki from Azerbaijan have won the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Running Scared.
Azerbaijan received 221 points for the song Running Scared written by Stefan Örn, Sandra Bjurman and composed by Stefan Örn, Sandra Bjurman and Iain Farquharson. The winners claimed victory in front of a live audience of more than 30,000 spectators at the Düsseldorf Arena, while millions watched on TV and online all over the world. 25 countries took part in the Final.
The Final was transmitted live over the Eurovision and Euroradio networks, to Europe and beyond.
Viewers in the 43 countries that took part voted for their favourite songs via a pan-European televoting system. In addition, professional juries in each of those countries determined 50% of the results in the two Semi-Finals and the Final.
EBU Executive Supervisor, Jon Ola Sand, complimented host broadcaster NDR, “We thank NDR for a wonderful production, raising the bar for worldwide TV entertainment once again. All three shows broadcast this week were organized to the highest standards.”

The show was opened by one of the hosts, Stefan Raab, performing last year’s winning song, Satellite, surrounded by the flags of all 43 participating countries. The interval act was performed by Jan Delay and the band Disko No. 1.
The winners received the Eurovision Song Contest trophy and the broadcaster in the winning country will have the chance to organize next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
