EBU invited to Sheffield Doc/Fest

For the first time this year, the Sheffield Doc/Fest (8-12 June) is welcoming the EBU on 7 June and 8 June for its bi-annual plenary meeting. Now in its 18th year, the Sheffield Doc/Fest brings the international documentary family together to celebrate the art and business of documentary making.

Open to all EBU Members, the meeting will bring together around 60 European documentary commissioners, representing 40 public television broadcasters from Europe and beyond. Spread over 2 days, the EBU meeting will include a pitching forum for approximately 30 projects, mainly focusing on current affairs or arts and culture, and will enable broadcasters to negotiate co-productions, pre-buys and other collaborations around new and existing documentary projects. The meeting will additionally give Public Service Documentary Commissioners the opportunity to share their professional experience with their peers.

Chairman of the EBU Documentary Group Axel Arno says, “It is the underlying aim of the EBU Documentary Commissioning Editors for PSBs to closely follow the latest international trends and to nurture tight links to the European industry. The Doc/Fest in Sheffield is an excellent event to do this and we are delighted to be invited.  Thanks for welcoming us."

Sheffield is fast becoming known as one of the top places in the world for people from the documentary and digital industries to get together - to meet, to screen their work, share knowledge, do business, make new contacts and discuss innovations and challenges they are facing in the ever changing media landscape.

Says Heather Croall, Director Sheffield Doc/Fest, “This partnership with the European Broadcasting Union - along with the partnership with Documentary Campus already announced – means that Doc/Fest delegates will have maximum access this summer to two of the major documentary organisations in Europe.”
