Radio: EBU showcases multi-platform radio inside European Parliament
17 octobre 2011
The EBU New Radio Group has transmitted a live broadcast from the European Parliament to demonstrate the principle of multiplatform digital radio broadcast.
One-hour shows in English and French were broadcast over DAB+ in Belgium, DRM in the South Atlantic area and over IP worldwide, with hybrid visual content relating to the broadcast topics distributed via RadioDNS and DAB Slideshow technologies.
The multiplatform distribution meant listeners from as far afield as Brazil were able to tune in. The shows involved discussions about the crucial role of radio in covering news and European politics, future transmission paradigms, the scope of hybrid content and radio as a talking point within the European Parliament itself.
Contextual visual content, such as 'chapter headings' and images of hosts Alain Gerlache (RTBF) and Lotta Bromé (Swedish Radio) and guests, as well as tweets, live studio images and weather information were aligned with the broadcast using software developed by the EBU.

In a video produced at the event, on October 10, the EBU invited Member broadcasters to collaborate in integrating the platform into a broadcast workflow.
