Gdansk to host Eurovision Young Dancers

It was announced today, that the Polish city of Gdańsk will host the 2013 Eurovision Young Dancers competition. EBU Member, TVP will be the host broadcaster for next year’s competition which will be broadcast live from the Baltic Opera House at 20:00 CET on Friday, 14 June. Robert Kamyk from TVP joins the Steering Group as the Executive Producer of next year's competition.
"With the success of the new format's test-run in Oslo in 2011, a number of new countries have expressed a strong interest in joining this unique event, so we have extended the number of participating broadcasters to 14”, said Vladislav Yakovlev, Executive Supervisor of the 2013 Eurovision Young Dancers.
The Eurovision Young Dancers competition is open to solo dancers aged between 16 and 21, from EBU Member broadcasters. The aim of the competition is to provide a showcase for top-class contemporary artistic dance performances and bringing the finest young dancers to international attention, in front of a large television audience.
This event is co-branded with the Eurovision Young Musicians, the classical music competition, both of which having been running since the 1980s.
In 2011, Daniel Modou Sarr from Norway won the Eurovision Young Dancers contest in Oslo.
A professional jury selected the winner, who performed dance styles incorporating jazz, contemporary and hip hop. Viewers from across Europe watch the show either live or by deferred broadcast.
