EBU's .radio application passes ICANN Initial Evaluation

The EBU’s application to operate the new Top Level Domain (TLD) name .radio has passed the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Initial Evaluation.

ICANN’s expert assessors have judged that the EBU’s bid meets the requirements of the Applicant Guidebook by demonstrating the technical, operational and financial means to manage the Top-Level Domain Registry.

The EBU awaits the outcomes of applications for two TLD names: .eurovision, which would bolster the Eurovision brand, and .radio.

If successful in its .radio application, the EBU will create a global radio community that is open to all eligible radio organizations and broadcasters, internet radios, radio amateurs and radio professionals, as well as companies providing radio products and services.

In line with its non-profit, public-service ethos, the EBU’s intention is to benefit every member of the radio community – not just those that are financially better off.
