Radio Romania to bring George Enescu International Festival to EBU Members
03 septembre 2013

The “George Enescu” International Festival is the most important international cultural event held in Romania. The Festival provides this EBU Member with the chance to introduce their country into the inner circle of the world’s elite cultural events.
The 21st “George Enescu” Festival will be held from 1 to 28 September 2013, with Radio Romania and Romanian Television as co-producers of the event.
Enescu’s music will be heard in Bucharest in unique performances by such famous ensembles as the Royal Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the Berlin Staatskapelle, the London and Munich Philharmonics, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestras of London and Stockholm, and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
In keeping with such a high-quality event, this year’s Festival programme reinforces Romania's position as the host of one of the world’s leading music festivals.
Major figures of the international Classical music scene will be present at the Festival: the conductors Daniel Barenboim and Mariss Jansons, as well as the pianists Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia and Evgeny Kissin, and the violinists Pinchas Zukerman and Maxim Vengerov.
Some 63 live broadcasts will be produced simultaneously by Radio Romania’s Musical (www.romania-muzical.ro) and Cultural (www.radioromaniacultural.ro) channels, while 74 concerts will be archived. The Romanian broadcaster will present a total of no fewer than 115 events: concerts, recitals, opera and ballet performances, conferences and songwriting workshops.
After last season’s successful events appreciated by audiences and experts alike, Romanian Radio’s Orchestras and Choruses will inaugurate their new season at the 21st “George Enescu” International Festival with a performance of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem.
Around 60 concerts from this year’s Festival are being offered to EBU Members as pink offers and as part of the 2013 Euroradio Summer Festivals.
