EBU Members awake to the sound of RTE's Dawn Chorus
28 avril 2017To celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day on Sunday 7 May, RTÉ Radio in Ireland, is joining forces with other Members and All India Radio for a live international broadcast of this natural phenomenon.
The Dawn Chorus is the collective sound of birds singing at the start of a new day. It's usually only the males that sing and they sing for two reasons, to hold territory and attract a mate. As the sun rises in East, it moves like a great wave across the face of Earth. As it does, the birds wake up and burst into song.
Thanks to colleagues in Ireland, audiences will get to listen in to birdsong from twenty different locations, spanning six time zones across thirteen countries, the show traverses every latitude and longitude from India to Iceland, following the wave of light as it reveals this ornithological opera!
Presenter Derek Mooney will anchor the broadcast with a team of ornithologists in Saint Anne's Park in Dublin, part of the UNESCO-designated Dublin Bay Biosphere, for the live transmission of nature's symphony, The Dawn Chorus.
