EBU General Assembly: Managing Technology's Evolution

Broadcasting and much else in society is shaped by the evolution of technology. Understanding its directions is critically important for making decisions about the future. This year senior management delegates to the EBU General Assembly will have the opportunity to take part in a workshop that aims to 'demystify' the main elements of technology that will shape our broadcasting world in the next decade.

Ahead lies the world of computerized (or 'IT') programme making, and the workshop will consider how the rewards can be achieved without the pains. The session will also consider how broadcasters will fare in a 'tri-media' world, where production staff need to think 'TV', 'radio' and 'Internet' at the same time. The workshop will also look at a future world of 3DTV and ultra high quality television.

For actually delivering programmes to the public there are other dimensions to consider, including holding on to our precious radio frequency spectrum, the future of digital radio and FM, and the new world of hybrid broadcasting and the use of Tablets and smart phones.

To survive our exciting times,  broadcast management needs to grasp the main directions technology is taking us. The workshop is intended to help them do so.
