The European Jazz Orchestra (EJO) will travel the length and breadth of Europe to fulfil its performance schedule, which kicks off in Herning Denmark on September 7.
Every year, the Jazz producers of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Radio Members, assemble a European jazz big band featuring a new conductor, new compositions and an entourage of handpicked musicians, aged between 18 and 30.
The Danish based organization Swinging Europe organizes the tour of the EJO throughout Europe with Funds from Denmark Communities and the financial help of the European Union (EU).
This year's series of concerts will be led by EBU Member and Ukraine broadcaster NRCU, culminating in two recording sessions in the NRCU Big Studio in Kiev on September 19 and the Academy of Music on September 20.
Head of Euroradio Pierre-Yves Tribolet expressed his pleasure at the collaboration during a series of Ukrainian radio and TV news conferences also attended by NRCU Director General Taras Avrakhov.
"In supporting this initiative, NRCU is upholding a tradition established in 1965 by the network of public broadcasters and partners all over the world. This year's series, which will include a touch of Ukrainian folk music, is one of our most exciting programmes yet."
Since the collaboration with Swinging Europe was launched in 1998, 226 European musicians have participated in 175 concerts in 33 countries in Europe, North and South America and in Asia.
This year's EJO will be led by the Ukrainian Big Band leader and composer Igor Stetsyuk.
"The impact of the EBU Big Band cannot be underestimated," Mr Tribolet added. "Millions of listeners and viewers have enjoyed the quality radio and TV transmissions supported by the EBU."
