EBU present at PSM Workshop in Warsaw, 12-14 May 2013

Michael Wagner (EBU Legal) and Roberto Suarez Candel (EBU Media Intelligence Service) participated in workshop on public service media governance at the University of Warsaw 12-14 May 2013.
The meeting, sponsored by the European Science Foundation (ESF) was convened by Michał Głowacki (University of Warsaw, Poland) and Lizzie Jackson (Ravensbourne, United Kingdom).
Over 20 policy makers, media practitioners and scholars gathered to discuss the challenges faced by public service media managers as the media and technologies evolve.
The workshop programme was organised along the lines of the key principles identified by the Council of Europe Recommendation CM/Rec(2012)1 on public service media governance.
These were outlined in the opening speech given by Jan Malinowski (Head of Information Society Department at the Council of Europe).
Other topics up for debate were:
- How Political Power Interacts with Public Service Media Management,
- Regulatory Restraints on Online Activities of PSM,
- Deploying Public Service in Multiple Screens,
- Participatory and Open Public Service Provision,
- Opening up Public Service Media: A Strategy for Institutional Challenge.
