The EBU’s landmark Generation What project has been presented to the Directors General of Youth from 27 EU Secretaries of State for Culture and Education at a meeting in Kosice, Slovakia on 6/7 October.
The meeting was organised by the Slovak government who currently hold the Presidency of the EU Council.
18 EBU Members are taking part in Generation What. Since its launch in April, more than 900,000 people in 14 countries have taken a questionnaire about life, love, work. identity among other issues. The project also includes interactive TV, radio and online elements designed to paint a portrait of people aged 18-34 from all over Europe.
Madiana Asseraf and Jens Ripke (pictured above) from the EBU’s Media department were in Kosice to present the project
“Supporting our Members to reach and engage with younger audiences more efficiently is one of our key priorities,” said Asseraf.
“The EBU presence at the meeting with Generation What was a valuable opportunity to showcase at EU level the efforts that the EBU and its Members are making to give a voice to young people across Europe,” added Ripke.
The presentation included details about the project (objectives, format, questionnaire, results to date based on more than 900,000 participants, etc.) and also examples of how EBU Members have been producing creative content based on the questionnaire and the results gathered both at a national and at international level.
The pan-European results of the Generation What survey will be revealed to the EU’s Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Council on 21 November after a presentation to an informal breakfast meeting of the European Council. A discussion between politicians and youth representatives will also take place.
A day earlier a youth event will be held at deBuren, a well-known cultural venue in the heart of Brussels. This event, on 20 November, will be also be available as an audio and video stream.
