The digital radio experience - case studies on going digital
17 avril 2013
The future of radio is hybrid because the Internet will not be able to cope with such a large volume of data generated by listening to live radio channels. This was the core message by Christian Vogg, EBU Head of Radio, to the audience at a digital radio conference in northern Italy. Moreover, the needs of modern radio are best served by DAB+, being not only cost efficient but also an opener for new creative program and business models.
The two days seminar, organized by WorldDMB in collaboration with Trentino Network and Club DAB Italia, was attended by broadcasters and digital radio stakeholders from all over Italy. Their overall demand could be summed up as follows: launch digital radio in Italy – now!
The speakers gave an overview of how to bring digital radio successfully to market, while sharing with the Italian broadcasting industry insight into the experiences of other European countries who are undertaking their own digital radio transition. There was also a look at the entire digital radio value chain and best practices on digital radio rollout. Representatives from the automotive sector, technology suppliers and from professional equipment manufacturers and service providers provided a complete panorama of the development, processes and consumption of digital radio in Europe.
