WorldDMB Seminar 2013: case studies on going digital
17 April 2013

The future of radio is hybrid because internet alone cannot cope with the volume of data generated by live radio listening. This was the core message of a presentation by EBU Head of Radio Christian Vogg at a digital radio conference in Trento, northern Italy.
Mr Vogg also told participants of the two-day WorldDMB Seminar that modern radio’s needs are best served by DAB+, a cost efficient delivery standard that catalyses new creative programme and business models.
The two-day meeting, organized by WorldDMB in collaboration with Trentino Network and Club DAB Italia, was attended by broadcasters and digital radio stakeholders from all over Italy. All parties are agreed on what needs to be done for their country’s radio future: launch digital radio in Italy – now.
Speakers outlined how to bring digital radio to market successfully, and shared with the Italian broadcasting industry experiences of other European countries transitioning to digital radio. Presenters also analysed the entire digital radio value chain and best practices for digital radio rollout.
Representatives of the automotive sector, technology suppliers, professional equipment manufacturers and service providers were also at the seminar, on 15-16 April, formed the complete panorama of digital radio’s development, processes and consumption in Europe.
