Audiovisual Media Services Directive: EBU welcomes publication of consultation
07 juillet 2015
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) welcomes the publication of the consultation on the Audiovisual Media Services Directive and how to make Europe's audiovisual media landscape fit for purpose in the digital age.
The consultation “on Directive 2010/13/EU on Audiovisual media services (AVMSD) - A media framework for the 21th century” invites stakeholders to submit feedback on a range of issues such as whether to and how to improve the current framework, the role of the different market players as well as the best ways to protect viewers’ interests or promoting access to information.
EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre said: “An ever more convergent and digital media landscape brings tremendous opportunities to audiences and the audiovisual industry. We look forward to contributing to this important debate. The end goal is to ensure that the regulatory framework continues to support a vibrant industry, empowers audiences and ensures that content of public value remains easy to find and accessible.”
The consultation, which runs until 30 September, is part of the Digital Single Market strategy, which includes a review of the AVMS Directive in 2016.
EBU will respond to the consultation, by building on its earlier contribution to the 2013 Commission Green Paper on media convergence.
