EBU News Committee 'deeply concerned' over changes to Poland's media law
19 janvier 2016
The European Broadcasting Union's (EBU) News Committee is deeply concerned about recent changes in Poland’s media law, and fears that they could adversely affect the independence of public service media in Poland.
The News Committee represents over 60 EBU member broadcasters. The current committee representatives were recently elected at the 10th News Assembly in Berlin (October 2015).
Pluralism and political independence are key tenets of public service media in a democratic society and the direct government appointment of public service media supervisory and managerial personnel puts this independence and the ability to conduct non-partisan journalistic endeavors at risk.
The EBU News Committee strongly supports the efforts of the European Broadcasting Union, led by its President Jean Paul Philippot and the EBU Director General, Ingrid Deltenre, to seek to ensure that public service media governance structures in Poland provide an environment in which freedom of expression and editorial independence can flourish.
The News Committee will monitor that TVP fulfills their obligations stemming from participation in the Eurovision News Exchange.
