The 32nd edition of the EBU Radio Assembly took place in Sofia, Bulgaria on 23 April 2026, in the wake of the EBU Media Summit 2026. Both events were kindly hosted by BNR and BNT.

Radio Assembly 2026: Critical legislation and a crucial campaign

This year's Radio Assembly focused on two priorities that demand the attention of every EBU radio member. First, critical EU legislation affecting radio's distribution in connected cars is currently under review, and coordinated action across the membership will be essential in the months ahead – the Assembly provided space to address questions and concerns. The Assembly also marked Radio Ready's second year, with plans for the year ahead unveiled. Join the campaign here: Radio Ready Initiative.

Among the other questions explored was how we can continue to do our work at the highest standard while remaining impartial yet relevant in a space increasingly flooded by misinformation and content created by AI bots.

“We are living in a time of profound change. An increasingly fragmented and polarized world, alongside rapid technological progress, requires us to work at double speed: providing trusted content for citizens, continuing to innovate across our media by strengthening our distribution strategies, and ensuring that the European legal framework is conducive to the fulfilment of our missions.

For the current mandate of the Radio Committee, these challenges are fully reflected in our priorities. There is much work to be done, but I am confident that by joining forces and sharing best practice across our network, we can succeed."
