EBU calls for strengthened Digital Markets Act to safeguard media pluralism
30 September 2025
The EBU urges the European Commission to revise the Digital Markets Act to better safeguard media pluralism amid rapid digital and AI-driven changes.
On 24 September, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) submitted a response to the European Commission’s consultation on the upcoming review of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA serves as a foundational instrument for fostering fair and contestable digital markets. However, the EBU’s analysis reveals that the Act, in its current form and application, does not fully address the needs and public interest objectives of public service media and the broader media sector. The rapid evolution of the digital landscape, particularly with the advent of generative AI, underscores the need to revise the DMA's scope and effectiveness to safeguard media pluralism.
