MEPs call on Bosnian authorities to save PSM

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have written to the Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities to call upon them to take urgent measures to save public service media (PSM) in the country.

24 MEPs signed the letter calling upon authorities to fufill the EU and Council of Europe standards by securing the financing for PSM before the end of June 2017. If a decisiion on funding is not taken by then, the system and, in particular the national broadcaster BHRT, is at risk of imminent collapse.

The MEPs wrote that: "A collapse of tne national public broadcaster is unacceptable for the country, which is a member of the Council of Europe and entering negotiations for membership within the European Union. BiH would become the only European country without a public service broadcaster, which is against European standards and values."
