New edition of the Sustainability Rulebook: the Green Claims Directive

On 9 April, the EBU published the third instalment of the Sustainability Rulebook. This is a series will be informing Members on a new regulation on sustainability coming from the EU.

Our latest instalment introduces The Green Claims Directive. This legislation aims to prevent companies from misleading consumers with false environmental claims. The proposal sets out minimum standards for how companies should prove and communicate their environmental claims, making these green claims reliable, comparable and verifiable across the EU..

The Green Claims Directive is part of the European Green Deal – a set of policy initiatives by the European Commission aiming to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions and achieve climate-neutrality by 2050.

There is a long list of sustainable initiatives in the pipeline that are set to transform the media sector over the coming years. The EBU is here to help and guide public service media through these changes.
