3Cat becomes an Ancillary Member of the European Broadcasting Union
25 June 2026
3Cat has become an Ancillary Member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), elected at the EBU's 96th General Assembly in Prague on 25 June 2026.
3Cat is the public service media organization of Catalonia, broadcasting in Catalan to a community of more than eight million people.
3Cat's membership formalises a relationship that has been active and productive for more than 15 years. As an Approved Participant through Catalunya Música, it has engaged with the EBU across a range of services and communities.
Noel Curran, Director General of the EBU, said: "3Cat are a modern, forward-looking broadcaster with strong expertise to share - in Catalan-language content, in digital transformation, in the kind of regional public service journalism that is critical to the audience it serves. Ancillary Membership means we can work together more fully, and the whole community benefits from that."
3Cat's election follows a revision to the EBU's Statutes, also approved by the General Assembly today, which creates a new Ancillary Membership category. The framework recognises broadcasting organizations that serve a large autonomous linguistic community and whose participation brings value to the EBU.
3Cat will bring high-quality Catalan-language content to EBU exchanges in news, audio and music - adding both volume and editorial diversity, including a distinct regional perspective that strengthens pluralism across the network. Its expertise in minority language broadcasting, cross-media integration and digital transformation will help Members navigating the same challenges.
The EBU's membership now spans 115 organizations across 57 countries.
