About Eurosonic

The Eurosonic Festival has become a favourite amongst artists, music professionals and lovers for discovering the best new European acts.

The festival - a joint effort by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Eurosonic Nooderslag and the European Boarder Breakers Awards (EBBA) - is dedicated to promoting up-and-coming bands across the continent. Past festivals have included appearances by the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Kaizers Orchestra, Phoenix, Mando Diao, First Aid Kit and Selah Sue.

EBU Member broadcasters join forces to produce and record the performances of roughly 200 European bands, which are then relayed via our Euroradio network to a pan-European audience. A special media compound at the festival facilitates transmissions, interviews, session recordings, reports and the collection of audio-visual material.

EBU Music/Euroradio

EBU Music will broadcast all acts and all concerts taking place at the Eurosonic Festival. Please get in touch for live transmissions.

In addition, the European Border Breaker Awards (EBBA) will also be distributed via the EBU network. Last year 15 different EBU stations distributed this exciting event.

As usual, EBU Members can find these offers on MUS and Euroradio 2See, our music exchange platforms.

The Eurosonic Group is the partnership of EBU stations specialized in youth programming. This unique partnership makes the EBU one of the major players on the contemporary pop music scene by developing and launching projects with festivals, artists and record companies. We also broadcast major music events, such as festivals like Roskilde, Benicassim, Paléo and Transmusicales de Rennes.

European Border Breaker Awards

The festival kicks off each year with the European Border Breaker Awards (EBBA). The EBBAs are awarded to emerging European pop acts who enjoy success outside their own borders. Hosted by BBC presenter Jools Holland, the show is produced for TV, radio and online.

EBU Members are also integral to the nomination and selection process. The European Boarder Breaker Charts (EBBC) was established at the beginning of 2016 as a way of promoting European talent. The EBBC is based on airplay monitored by British radio airplay specialists Radiomonitor, from a panel consisting of 48 stations from the EBU across 32 countries.

Eurosonic and Noorderslag

Eurosonic Noorderslag is actually two festivals in one. "Eurosonic" refers to the first three days which showcases talent from across Europe at over 20 different venues, while "Nooderslag" concentrates on Dutch bands and takes place on fourth and final day. Initially launched in 1986 as a one-day event to promote Dutch and Belgian bands, EBU radio stations joined the party in 1999.

Along with preformances every evening, the conference takes place during the day, attracting over 4000 delegates,  including those from over 400 international festivals. This networking platform for European music has a proven track record for helping new acts break into the international music scene.

More info on the full line-up, conference and tickets can be found at eurosonic-noorderslag.nl.
