Do Books have a Future in Radio?

"Talking Books" is the subject of the annual literature seminar of the Euroradio Culture Group held in association with the 19th “Gaudeamus” International Book and Education Fair in Bucharest on 22 November. The seminar also focuses on "Radio and Literary Translations” and “The Role of Public Broadcasters in the National Promotion of Foreign Literature".

Describing the literature situation in Romania, Croatia, Hungary and Italy is one part of the seminar. But there are also some provocative keynotes on the agenda. A member of Radio Russia will ask: "Do we need foreign books in Russia?" And there will be a discussion on "Are we going too far with translations?" Another aspect will be treated by Radio Romania Cultural: "Speaking about literature, how well do we know our neighbours?"

An interesting subject on how to look on the social role of literature and radio will also be presented by Radio Romania Cultural: "How to tell our common past: post-Communist literature".

"Gaudeamus" was launched in 1994 by Romanian Radio. The book fair includes many different sections, 32 percent of the exhibitors are European publishers. Besides that "Gaudeamus” organizes some 500 cultural events. Guest of honour will be this year Moldova, while the privileged guest is Italy.
