Documentary Experts Meeting and Pitching Sessions - 2024 Spring Session

The 2024 Spring sequel of the EBU Documentary Experts meeting/pitching session will take place in London, U.K. on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 June 2024 at the kind invitation of the BBC.

More detailed information will be communicated in due time, but you are already invited to save the date. Please note that because of security at the BBC, you will need to arrive at the venue at least one hour beforehand (and will be asked for an ID official document). Please be mindful of this when making your travel arrangements and don’t make plans to arrive too late.

The projects submission window (5 weeks) opens on Monday 11 March with a deadline for submissions coming on Monday 15 April.

Call for submissions

Here is the procedure to submit the projects you have in development, and you’d like to pitch to your peers. The deadline for submissions is Monday 15 April, don’t miss it!

  • Fill in the (new) submission form (.docx) (one for each project),
  • Add a treatment - 4 pages max. (longer ones might not be considered)
  • Send both, the submission form and the treatment, as word documents to Karen Simha
  • Deadline: Monday 15 April at the latest.

A complete new set of guidelines and procedures (incl. pitching/selection rules and projects criteria) is available on the EDS page. Please read through the documents as these clarify the process and rules related to the way project proposals should be presented, selected, pitched and followed up.

Submission guidelines and criteria:

  • Projects can only be submitted by the Lead Broadcaster (LB) acting as EBU Member representative, during the submissions window and in accordance with the rules,
  • The LB is the one deciding to submit a project as a regular or EDS one,
  • A single project can only be submitted in one of the two categories (e.g.: EDS vs regular),
  • A broadcaster cannot submit more than 3 projects in total,
  • It’s up to the LB to decide whether he applies for EDDS (development loan) or EDPS (production contribution), or both, one following the other, this depending on the status of the project and its ambitions.

Registrations to the meeting will open as soon as the selection of the projects has been made public very early May. A detailed agenda, including each pitch exact timings will follow by then as well.
