Public Service Broadcasters hold first TEDxTransmedia

Geneva, 30 September 2010 – the European Broadcasting Union(EBU), the largest association of public broadcasters in the world, is holding today a first-of-its kind TEDx event: TEDxTransmedia.
The event aims to inspire in particular public service broadcasters to ‘DARE’ more to create innovative content and borderline strategies in a bid to connect with the audience of the future. It is designed to stimulate dialogue among creative professionals in the ‘otherMedia’ sector. The event, hosted by Radio Télévision Suisse in Geneva and attended by public service broadcasters, comprises presentations by global experts in transmedia.
Transmedia is a technique which develops storytelling across multiple media platforms in order to provide the story with different entry-points, each with a unique and independent lifespan but with a definite role in the larger narrative.
The high-level speakers will share their DARING attitudes about their work, strategies and personal perspectives:
•Jeff Gomez (DAREtoCHANGE), a pioneer of transmedia storytelling
•Frederic Kaplan (DAREtoENVISION), a producer of innovative interfaces
•Stephen E. Dinehart (DAREtoENGAGE), a transmedia designer, writer and artist
•David Rowan (DAREtoINFORM), the editor-in-chief of the UK edition of Wired magazine
•Caroline Phillips (DAREtoHURDY-GURDY), an entrepreneur and professional musician
•Ian Ginn (DAREtoEDUCATE), a teacher of transmedia for younger audiences
•Christy Dena (DAREtoDESIGN), a passionate transmedia historian and producer
•Christopher Sandberg (DAREtoMAKE), the executive producer of The Truth about Marika
•Don Hon (DAREtoPLAY), specializes in games, play and new ways of storytelling
•Simon Harrop (DAREtoSENSE), a sensory marketing guru and expert

“TED'smission of giving a window to ‘Ideas worth spreading’ is a natural fit for EBU Members. Public service media objectives are built on making the best knowledge and information available to vast and diverse audiences (our Members collectively reach 650 million viewers weekly),” explains event organizer Nicoletta Iacobacci, the head of Interactive TV & Crossmedia at the EBU. She continues, “This TEDx Transmedia event has a strong line-up of thought-provoking speakers to inspire and guide public service media in the right direction to prepare for the future of entertainment.”
