EBU and partners supporting Tunisian broadcasters

A team of journalists from France 24 and RFI is in Tunis amid ongoing efforts by Canal France International, France Télévisions and the EBU to help Tunisian broadcasters make best use of their newly-won autonomy.

Tunisia TV and Tunisia Radio are receiving key guidance on how best to go about public service news dissemination and to ensure their editorial independence.

Issues receiving the closest attention are responsible reporting on elections in a multiparty landscape and the establishment of media systems appropriate to a new democracy.

The team, made up of French and Arabic speaking journalists, will remain in Tunisia until early May, before being replaced by journalists from other EBU Members. This rolling pattern will continue right up to the elections in July of this year.

This first mission is part of a joint effort by several international bodies and EBU Members, aiming to ease the transformation of radio and TV organisations into public service broadcasters.
