For more than 10 years, the Euroradio Seasons offer EBU radio Members a musical portrait of the two European Capitals of Culture of the year for a full week. This year's European Capitals of Culture are Tallinn in Estonia, followed by Turku in Finland between 30 November and 3 December 2011.

Welcome to Talinn, European Capital of Culture 2011

From 7-13 March 2011, Klassikaraadio, the classical music channel of the Estonian radio will broadcast 10 concerts that are part of the European Capital of Culture 2011 Tallinn Programme. More information concerning the individual performances, the musicians, the venues, and selected facets of Tallinn’s historical past and exciting present can be found here.

The Euroradio week  dedicated to Estonia is full of different events and gives a good overview of various aspects of the Estonian music scene, its leading ensembles and soloists, choirs and orchestras.

Here are some highlights:

• On Monday, which is traditionally the day of Euroradio concerts, you are invited to the performance of Arvo Pärt’s “Nekroloog” (1960) and Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Symphony No. 8 (2010) by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Olari Elts.
• The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir under Daniel Reuss will give the world-premiere performance of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s new large-scale composition, “Awakening”.
• The recital of the Estonian National Male Choir commemorates the victims of the 9 March 1944 bombing of Tallinn.
• Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Tsar’s Bride” (concert performance) is brought to you by the Estonian National Opera and conductor Arvo Volmer.
• Estonia’s jazz scene is represented by bright young vocalist Kadri Voorand, and the folk-community by one of its most promising songstresses, Mari Kalkun. Also on the bill: the Chamber Music program, the Nordic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Anu Tali, the Early Music consort Hortus Musicus, and the Vox Clamantis ensemble’s program of sacred music from the West and the East (“Orient & Occident”).
• The European Capital of Culture 2011 Tallinn Programme in its entirety is truly extensive and comprises a myriad of diverse events. To name just one more of the colourful multitude – from 1-3 July, Tallinn will be hosting the XI Youth Song and Dance Celebration, “The Land and the World”.
