Sports Rights: EBU and Austrian Ski Association agree worldwide media rights to OSV Skiing World Cups
09 December 2011
Geneva, 9 December 2011 - The Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) has selected the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) as exclusive media partner for its World Cup events in Austria.
The new agreement covers all FIS World Cup Ski competitions hosted in Austria, starting from the 2011/12 season: Alpine, Nordic, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, Snowboard and Freestyle.
Key seasonal events include the opening event in Sölden; the Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm races; the Night Race in Schladming and the Austrian legs of the Four-Hill Ski Jumping Tournament in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. The agreement incorporates an average 26 World Cup events per season.
Under the agreement, the EBU will manage the distribution of media rights for all ÖSV events across all platforms - including mobile devices and internet - for all territories except Austria.
Professor Peter Schröcksnadel, ÖSV President, said:
"The ÖSV and the EBU have enjoyed a fruitful partnership for three seasons. This new agreement will benefit the sport, the broadcasters, our organizers, as well as the ÖSV and the EBU. The EBU and its Members are guaranteed a series of world-class events with an exciting track record."
EBU President Jean-Paul Philippot also expressed his satisfaction:
"We are extremely pleased that the ÖSV has decided to continue its successful partnership with the EBU. This cooperation strengthens the role of the EBU as a major player in the competitive field of winter sports. We are convinced the partnership will in the years to come enable the further development and promotion of the ski sport and the Austrian World Cups in particular."
