The Bolshoi Theatre welcomes the EBU Radio Music Group

For over ten years, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow has been represented each year in the prestigious Euroradio Opera Season along with such other world-class houses as the Met, the Bastille Opera in Paris, Covent Garden and the Vienna State Opera.

The works in the Euroradio Opera Season, offered to EBU Radio Members each Saturday evening from September through June, are heard on average by 3.2 million listeners in some 16 countries.

For this first season of the Bolshoi since its reopening after renovation, Radio Mayak is making two highlights of the Russian repertory available: “The Golden Cockerel” by Rimsky-Korsakov and “Ruslan and Lyudmila” by Glinka.

During its recent meeting in Moscow at the joint invitation of Radio Russia and Radio Mayak, the Music Group had the pleasure of being welcomed by the management of the Bolshoi, where members had the opportunity to express their wish for continued cooperation with this historic Moscow institution.

An agreement on collaboration was concluded, which involves, in addition to one work being broadcast each year as usual, a further offer made up of video clips, artist interviews and photos, thereby enabling EBU Radio Members taking the opera to promote it in optimal fashion on their website. Finally, there is an effort under way to compile an offer of exceptional historic recordings from sound archives never before made public.
