EBU's Legal and Public Affairs Assembly

The EBU's Legal and Public Affairs Assembly took place this week in Istanbul on 19-20 April 2012, at the kind invitation of TRT and under the chairmanship of Mr Peter Weber (ZDF). Attending the Assembly were over 100 delegates from 31 countries, including China and Australia. The Legal and Policy Committee and the Statutes Group also met during the week in Istanbul.

At the Assembly itself, a keynote presentation was made by Mr Hans Laroes (former Editor-in-Chief at NOS). In addition, delegates discussed a wide range of legal, policy and lobbying issues. These included media freedom and pluralism, net neutrality, new media platforms, the protection of personal data and personality rights, and various copyright issues, such as orphan works, ACTA, the WIPO treaty and the Premier League court case.
Elections were held to fill four vacant seats on the Legal and Policy Committee. Mr Guillaume Gomis (GRF/SRF), Mr Khalid Hadadi (UKIB/C4), Ms Sarah Jones (BBC) and Mr Josef Lusser (ORF) were elected and Mr Malte Lind (STR/SR) was elected Vice-Chairman.
