Media industry to refine strategy on Connected TV
27 June 2012
Representatives from the media industry will join Members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Cyprus in October to examine the impact of the European Union (EU) Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMS) on Connected TV.
The conference, co-organised by the Cyprus Radiotelevision Authority and the EU, aims to look beyond the AVMS directive, which governs EU-wide coordination of national legislation on all audiovisual media, both traditional TV broadcasts and on-demand services.
The directive acknowledges the technological advancements which enable audiences to watch their favourite programmes from all over Europe – not only on TV, but also via the internet or mobile phone. As with other goods and services subject to a single European market, the directive sets a minimum set of common rules covering audiovisual media.
The conference will bring together representatives of the European Commission, policy makers on audiovisual matters from all EU member states, the Council of the E.U., the Council of Europe, the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA) the Mediterranean Network of Regulatory Authorities (MNRA), local authorities, representatives from the industry, as well as International, European and local media.
Topics for discussion include:
- an exchange of opinions on Connected TV
- how the EU plans to regulate the new environment
- technical and regulatory issues
- how to progress the discussion and prepare a strategy for the future
- The free conference will take place at Le Meridien Limassol Spa & Resort, Cyprus on the 25th and 26th October 2012.
