Eurovision brings Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra  from BBC Proms to Europe

Geneva, 14 September 2012 – Eurovision will ensure that music lovers from more than 25 countries will enjoy the penultimate night of the BBC Proms from the Royal Albert Hall, London.

As part of its concert package** with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO), Eurovision has distributed three major concerts a year on TV and radio since 2009. 
Bettina Brinkmann, Eurovision Head of TV, said: “The BBC, the host broadcaster of the event, is providing a high-quality classical concert that Eurovision can broadcast to Europe. This is the best of public service media programming for European audiences.” 

Under the baton of renowned conductor Bernard Haitink, the orchestra will perform Haydn's Symphony No.104 in D major, the last symphony composed by Hayden when he lived in London. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will also perform Strauss's Alpine Symphony London.

This 118th edition of the Proms remains true to its original spirit, to deliver the best and broadest range of music to the largest audience.

The deferred broadcast will be available to Members from Saturday 15 of September.

**The Eurovision concert package comprises:
-  The internationally popular New Year’s Concert from the Musikverein Concert Hall, Vienna.  
-  The annual Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn, at the Schlosspark, Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna.
- A special concert held in a different international location each year:
In 2009 it was at the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre; in 2010 at the Cankar Hall, Slovenia, hosted by RTVSLO; in 2011 it took place at the National Auditorium of Music, Madrid, hosted by RTVE and in 2012 it was held at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on 7 September, as part of the BBC Proms.
