David Wood on the nature of 3DTV

David Wood on the nature of 3DTV

In this new video former EBU deputy technical director David Wood uses his inimitable style to explain how 3DTV interacts with the human visual system. Using model giraffes and eyeballs on stalks he explains clearly how the technique that's used to trick the mind into thinking there's an object in front of the screen can cause discomfort for some people.

While some of the hype surrounding 3DTV over the last few years has died down, it remains on the radar of many EBU Members and other broadcasters. Just recently, for example, the BBC covered parts of the London Olympics in 3DTV. The EBU will continue to study the format and provide guidance to its Members through a dedicated 3DTV Project Group. A new set of 3DTV reference sequences will soon be made available for testing purposes.
