Europe picks first 10 qualifiers for Eurovision Song Contest final
14 May 2013

During tonight’s Eurovision Song Contest first Semi-Final, broadcast live from Sweden’s Malmö Arena, Europe selected the first 10 qualifiers to go through to the Grand Final, on Saturday night.
In alphabetical order, they are:
- Belarus: Alyona Lanskaya - Solayoh
- Belgium: Roberto Bellarosa - Love Kills
- Denmark: Emmelie de Forest - Only Teardrops
- Estonia: Birgit - Et Uus Saaks Alguse
- Ireland: Ryan Dolan - Only Love Survives
- Lithuania: Andrius Pojavis - Something
- Moldova: Aliona Moon - O Mie
- Netherlands: Anouk - Birds
- Russia: Dina Garipova - What If
- Ukraine: Zlata Ognevich - Gravity
Artists from 16 nations competed for the 10 places, which were awarded by viewers and professional juries representing each country. Each had a 50 per cent stake in the outcome.
EBU Executive Supervisor Jon Ola Sand said the 58th Eurovision Song Contest was off to a great start, but that there were two more unforgettable nights of entertainment ahead.
"The Swedish EBU Member SVT has put huge effort into raising the standards for TV entertainment with all three shows,” he said. “Europe will be amazed by what they see in the second Semi-Final on
Thursday, as well as the Grand Final on Saturday.”
Thursday's second Semi-Final will complete the Grand Final line-up, which already includes the automatic qualifiers from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and host Sweden.
The running order of the acts in the Final will be decided by the show’s producers. Viewers from the 39 participating countries will vote for their favourite songs via a pan-European televoting system, which will open once all the contestants have performed. In addition, professional juries, comprising six representatives from each of those countries, have a 50 per cent stake in the outcome.
It was the song Euphoria, sung by Swedish entry Loreen, which brought Sweden a fourth Eurovision Song Contest victory last year, and with it the chance to host this year's event. In the wake of her triumph, Loreen has become a household name and topped charts across Europe.
The Grand Final, which is expected to be watched by more than 60 million fans, will be transmitted live over the Eurovision and Euroradio networks to Europe and the world by Swedish EBU Member SVT.
The competitors in the first Semi-Final were:
