Jean Philip De Tender, the General Manager of Eén at Flemish public service broadcaster VRT, has been elected chairman of the EBU Television Committee for a two year term.

Mr. De Tender was elected unopposed on the second day of the 2013 Eurovision Media Summit in Brussels, Belgium and assumes leadership from Ruurd Bierman, NPO (The Netherlands).

Mr. De Tender's previous position as one of three Committee Vice Chairpersons has been filled by Frank-Dieter Freiling, ZDF (Germany), who joins Steve Carson, RTE (Ireland) and Riitta Pihlajamäki, YLE (Finland) as Committee Chairpersons.

About Jean Philip De Tender

Jean Philip De Tender began his career in 1987 as host of the film network Filmnet Mozaïek. In 1989 he joined the Flemish public broadcaster VRT, where he hosted the scientific programme Horizon and the touristic programme Azuur and also reported for Radio 1 and Radio 2.

From 1989 to 1998, Mr. De Tender worked as an editor of the programmes Zeker weten, TV1-Denksportkampioen, Tien voor Taal, Topscore, Zeg maar Jessie and Drie uur Jessie, and as an editor-in-chief on Jan Publiek, Schermen and Margriet. From 1999 to 2003, he was media consultant for VRT’s first TV channel Eén, and in 2003 he was appointed Programme Manager.

Since 2007, Mr. De Tender has been General Manager of Eén, making him responsible for the strategy, vision and programming of Flanders largest TV channel. He has also been a member of the board of BVN since 2008 (i.e. the TV channel of Flanders and The Netherlands abroad) and has been a member of the Eurovision TV Committee since 2010.

Mr. De Tender has been teaching Television Management and Media Context at RITS/Erasmushogeschool since 1999. He is the author of "Alles is een verhaal" ("Everything Is A Story").
