EBU Knowledge Exchange: Bringing media and academia together

The Casa Convalescència in Barcelona, the venue for EBU's Knowledge Exchange 2013

A hundred media professionals, scholars and analysts will come to Barcelona on 30 September for the first ever EBU Knowledge Exchange, a unique new forum that seeks to bridge the gap between media and academia.

Organized by the EBU’s Media Intelligence Service (MIS), in partnership with the Departament de Comunicació Audiovisual i Publicitat of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Knowledge Exchange 2013 will take place in the grand surroundings of the Casa Convalescència, in the Catalonian capital.

The goal of Knowledge Exchange is to bring the spheres of public service media and knowledge together to seek strategic responses to the growing challenges facing PSM today.

This year, the discussion will be focused on the need for public service media to forge closer bonds with audiences so they can to prevail through the changes of digitization and convergence. Innovative experiences and best practices carried out by EBU Members will be presented.

In addition, how to make the most of technology to establish a better connection with the public and retain social support will be discussed.

MIS manager Roberto Suárez Candel said the main goal of Knowledge Exchange is creating new synergies between public service media and other market players.

“In both worlds, the market and the academia, there is a lot of knowledge and reflection about the challenges that public service media are facing in the current transformation context. However, professionals and scholars do not talk to each other very often. The EBU is aware of this and wants to create a new space for debate to improve the exchange of ideas and build a strong case for PSM. That is why we are launching EBU Knowledge Exchange.”

EBU Knowledge Exchange 2013 takes an international and multi-stakeholder approach, assembling EBU Members, media professionals and communications scholars. It will present a unique opportunity for networking and fostering new collaborative partnerships.
