EBU Members endorse self assessment and peer review scheme
27 June 2013
The EBU General Assembly, meeting in Malta, has approved a new initiative under which EBU Members will establish an instrument to carry out self assessments and/or peer reviews to evaluate their performance based on the Core Values of Public Service Media. The goal of the exercise is to increase the efficiency of public service media and enhance the value of their contribution to society.
Central to the scheme, called PSM Values Check, will be the six values of universality, independence, excellence, diversity, accountability and innovation, which EBU Members unanimously adopted at last year’s General Assembly, in Strasbourg.
PSM Values Check will be conducted on a voluntary, opt-in basis.
EBU President Jean-Paul Philippot said today’s endorsement to create PSM Values Check was a testament to the EBU Membership’s commitment to continuous improvement in providing better service to society. “This is a bold step by our Members, and it demonstrates how serious they are about the importance of their role.”
A finalized proposal of the PSM Values Check will be presented at the EBU General Assembly in December 2013.
