Euroradio Folk Festival

07 June 2013
Euroradio Folk Festival

The 34th Euroradio Folk Festival took place from 27 to 29 May 2013 at the Black Sea resort of Varna (Bulgaria), at the kind invitation of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

The Festival was opened by an outstanding concert of the Bulgarian Folk Ensemble Manol Radichev from the village of Gela. Its performance, including music and dance, presented ancient Bulgarian customs and authentic folk traditions from the Rhodope Mountains.

Some 16 artists or bands*, representing 16 broadcasters from 15 countries, performed not only for the local audience, but also and especially for radio listeners throughout Europe and on other continents.  The concert recordings of these top-class instrumentalists and vocalists are available to all European Broadcasting Union Members via the Euroradio Concert Exchange Network.

The common denominator of this Festival is its reference to traditional music that is open to new forms and means of interpretation. Its aim is to preserve, revive and popularize cultural diversity and media pluralism - important values of the public service mission.
