Euroradio offers Jazz Competition recordings to all EBU Members
05 July 2013

The winner of the 2013 Euroradio Jazz Competition was announced (29 June). The international jury of jazz professionals and festival organisers unanimously selected Kapok, a young band from the Netherlands. Audio recordings are now available to EBU Members.
Kapok are a trio (horn, guitar and drums) constantly searching for new sounds and rhythms. They define themselves as "free, wild and adventurous". Their music includes plenty of improvisation, meaning that their pieces, when played live, often result in a completely different interpretation from the previous performance.
The 2013 Euroradio Jazz Competition finals marked the start of two weeks of jazz in Rotterdam with the festivals North Sea Round Town and North Sea Jazz. Around 15 European jazz festival organizers, along with several Dutch festivals, discussed and explored possibilities for cooperation to create an European Talent Exchange Programme (ETEP) for jazz.
Additionally, the JazzDag conference took place on 28-29 June, assembling over 1000 jazz professionals in debates and workshops.
During the finals, which took place the second day of JazzDag, Kapok and the other four finalists presented 30 minute long performances each at the LantarenVenster, giving the audience an idea of what their musical world is about.
The Euroradio Jazz Competition was launched in January 2013, in partnership with Nederlandse Publieke Omroep/Radio 6 (NLNPO), the Dutch Foundation for the European Jazz Competition (EJC Foundation) and Buma Cultuur, with the aim of encouraging, promoting and making known young musicians in jazz ensembles through recording sessions. Euroradio Member organizations were invited to present young jazz musician candidates 30 years of age and youngers, with up to two ensembles per radio organisation.
A pink offer for all EBU Members
