EBU REPLIES TO EU COPYRIGHT CONSULTATION

In December 2013 the European Commission launched a public consultation as part of its on-going effort to review and modernise EU copyright rules. The consultation process ended on 5 March 2014.

The EBU is convinced that online media services offered by EU-based organisations need a robust legal framework that provides legal certainty for multi-platform and cross-border use of protected works and related subject matter and that facilitates rights clearance for such services.

The focus of the EU copyright review should not be on changing the basic structure of the framework itself, but on streamlining the process of rights clearance.

The EBU has also responded on numerous other issues, such as exceptions and limitations, hyperlinking, identifiers, term of protection, text/data mining, user-generated content and enforcement.
